6 Days in New Orleans

I just got back from my first trip to New Orleans (N’Awlins). It is such an amazing musical city filled with so many talented players. Music pours out of every venue and occupies every street corner at all hours of the day and night.

I was there for part of the Jazz Festival and to help my brother shoot a documentary film (more on that soon) so it was kind of a working vacation. Here are a few highlights.

-Katia Bourbon Street is pretty insane on a Saturday night…not quite my scene but it was fun for a stroll through. We preferred Frenchman’s St. which was still very vibrant but more focused on great music. This was at The Spotted Cat.The street performers were just as impressive as in the jazz club, the kids below were barely teenagers. This was at the Gospel Tent at the Jazz Festival. This is Coco Robicheaux. You can catch him playing himself on the first season of HBO’s Treme (highly recommended). These guys are the Preservation Hall Stars performing at the famous Preservation Hall, my musical highlight of the trip.Me with my toes in the mighty Mississippi.
