This family session was planned to mark their son’s 4th birthday, and from the moment we started, it was clear he was going to run the show. Full speed ahead. Big personality, endless energy, and absolutely no interest in sitting still for more than half a second. Exactly how a four-year-old should be. Instead of trying to slow things down, we leaned into it.
What made the session even more meaningful was that it also took place on Mother’s Day. Between the chaos and play, there were tender moments between mother and son that were so important to capture.
As a photographer, I love sessions like this. They’re a reminder that perfection isn’t posed. It’s messy, joyful, loud, and fleeting. Four doesn’t last long. Neither does this version of motherhood, this version of family life.
Photographing this family wasn’t about getting everyone to look at the camera—it was about freezing a moment in time. One filled with energy, connection, and love. A celebration of a little boy turning four, and a mother being celebrated simply for being mom.
