Mimi & Devin – Toronto Micro Wedding at Peter Pan Bistro During COVID-19

Last year was a real challenge for all of us. Making plans of any kind in 2020 during a global pandemic was difficult, let alone trying to plan a wedding.

Mimi and Devin’s original wedding plan was for a fairly small, intimate May wedding at Toronto City Hall followed by a nice dinner down the street at Peter Pan Bistro.  Fortunately for them, their plans really only needed to be tweaked. The date moved from May to October and the ceremony moved to Peter Pan Bistro, with a slightly reduced guest list. All in all, thankfully, their original vision was relatively maintained.

We set up their first look reveal in the picture-perfect courtyard of the Sheraton Hotel before moving on to Osgoode Hall, a short walk away, for portraits. It was a cool, crisp fall day and the leaves were lovely tones of yellow and orange highlighting the season.

From there, it was a short walk to Peter Pan Bistro, a boutique venue within a heritage building, built in the 1890s. The seasonal fall theme was carried through in their pumpkin centrepieces adorned with red, yellow and orange flowers.

The ceremony took place on the lower-level outdoor courtyard with guests seated in their family bubbles. The couple’s vows were emotional and humorous, perfectly reflecting their personalities and bringing tears to everyone’s eyes.

Following the ceremony, the party moved to the upper-level outdoor patio. With these two outdoor areas, Peter Pan Bistro seemed perfectly designed for these Covid-era outdoor micro weddings. Heat lamps kept the guests warm as they enjoyed a four-course gourmet meal.

In between courses, I stepped out with the bride and groom briefly for a few urban portraits utilizing the downtown grittiness of Queen St West, which was a nice contrast to the neo-classical beauty of Osgoode Hall. After a couple of sweet and heartfelt speeches and some toasts to the bride and groom, my coverage of the evening concluded but the families continued their celebration well into the night.

Mimi and Devin expressed how their wedding turned out even better than they had originally planned and the intimacy and simplicity of it all ended up bringing everyone closer together.
